| I am an American and my flag flies daily, except in the rain or a raging wind,it is always taken down at dusk
It is flown at half mast at all times, and I have been asked a few times why, this is my standard answer
Our Men and Women die in another country fighting for my freedome daily, until all of them are at home I will continue to fly it at half mast in honor of them
When they are all home believe me I will get it as high as I possibly can
I am proud of my country and what it represents

| As you all know I spent many years in Canada, maybe now someone could explain to me where is the Canadian Pride?
I could never quite understand what was in the heads of so many that could not be bothered to fly the flag.
Question? What does your Canada day represent? As long as I lived there I never could figure it out

Here it is almost a given that on Fridays people wear red,now it doesn't seem like much but go to Walmart on a Friday and take a look at the sea of red and it makes you feel proud to be here

| Oh yorkie where do I begin.. LMAO
I am a dire hard Canadian ( CAN YOU TELL LMAO) Even before I met hubby..
There is no Canadian pride. Now this is where I will lay some blame on our education system.
Here we learn world history. Which is great... but we don't focus on our own countries history. We don't focus on what made canada. What contributions we made on an international level.
We do learn alot about American History. So what do our children learn. Don't get me wrong. I know that all history is important to a well rounded mind. But we are Canadians. Heck if we can't sign the national athem in school anymore. What kind of country is this.
Now most people would say it is Canada's Bday.. In a way that would be correct. But do you know it was once called Dominan Day. If you ask people now.. THey would say it was a holiday with fireworks
Back in 1867 July 1. ( I had to look up the year- shame on me dammit) This is when Canada was formed. The original of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the province of Canada into a federation. Up until 1982 we still had strong ties with the British governement. THen in 1982.. we were set FREE.. as to say...

Question? What does your Canada day represent? As long as I lived there I never could figure it out Unfortunately, it represents a day off of work and another reason to drink beer for most people. The only time you will see Canadian pride (for the most part) is when there is a Canadian hockey team playing. On a side note.....At the races in Michigan and the hockey games in Buffalo, they sing BOTH National Anthems, regardless of who is playing/racing. Nice gesture by the Americans who run those shows.

| So then I ask why is there not a million flags flying and yards streaming with the flags colors?
On the fourth of JUly it is amazing here, right down to the dishes we eat on and drink out of are red, white and blue,There is a moment of silence at noon for all of our country,we pledge allegience to the flag,we sing our national anthem,we are a proud country
In the bigger cities,it is well known that the last firework to go off turns into a breath taking american flag

Here it is almost a given that on Fridays people wear red,now it doesn't seem like much but go to Walmart on a Friday and take a look at the sea of red and it makes you feel proud to be here Actually in 2006- Canadians took over the sea of RED. It was from a group of military spouses across Canada. We had support Rallies throughout the country. The biggest were in Toronto on parliament hill.. which kicked it off. Later in Edmonton. I am damn proud to have been one of the organizers along with an incrediable woman who I will always call my sister. But as sad as it was.. not alot of civilans took part. We had it downtown edmonton during lunch hour. We had military vehicles coming from the base.. all the way up 97th. That was a site. It was one of the biggest rallies for the military as we just came back from a tough 06 tour when Canada took over the lead role of the battle of afghanistan. The troops are also escorted in the air by military jets. Let me google some articles for you.. none with my name in them.. LMAO Then.. when the chalks come home( chalks referring to the boys returning on the bus's).. Usually it is the spouses. We litterally paint the route with yellow ribbons. They get a police escort home. Usually people will stop their vehicles and wave.. I know their is a video of my hubby's chalk.... But honestly.. not much.. Most of the support comes from the spouses themself. for the most part.

| And for me that is sad,as it is not just the spouses that they keep safe it is all of us and we all need to support them in anyway we can
We also have the ribbons on our vehicles in support, but I would feel better if the money that was made from them went to our soldiers

| I don't think it was intended but you certainly are painting a picture that if you don't fly a flag you aren't proud of your country, which I can tell you is not the case. I love Canada and all that it is, which includes tolerance and the ability to be free about who you are. I am most proud when I see things like the constant overturning of gay marriages in some of the states versus Canada that hasn't had that problem. I am proud when I hear our national anthem play and when kids can roam our streets without the fears of third world countries. | |

| No bullet. I was making a point.
I do like the Americans patraism (SP) too late at night.
I am not saying that one will have no pride in ones country. But really look around. How many people actually fly the Canadian Flag?
Not a whole lot.
BUt yorkie brought up a very good point.
When we celebrate Canada day.. it is a mere day. A vacation day for most people like Fleas says.
But I am not worried about our generation. But what about our childrens Generation. When everything seems to fall around material things.
Do we teach our kids in school. Canadian History anymore. I know we do.. a fraction of what it is. Do we teach our children the contributions of Canadians. I have gone over the curriculm with some parents around here. We teach our kids alot of about North American history with a more focus on the US side. But it always amazes me in regards to this. How many us schools teach their kids about Canada.
Fleas also brought up a good point on the other thread. How many of our children can sing the national anthem. Honestly.

Not a whole lot. My apologies, I misread it also. My next door neighbour has a Canadian flag flying over his garage and I will say, it does look nice. Just never thought about getting one while I am out and about running errands.

| The truth...I have a very tall flag pole and when I first got it I flew at the top the Canadian flag and underneath that the Alberta flag and under that one the Union Jack. The prairie winds ruin all of the flags and eventually I started flying all sorts of flags because after I got dependant on them for wind direction to determine which way the wind was blowing so I didn't get hay in my eyes while pitching hay. Flags don't last here at all and start to tatter within a week and at $50,00 each and up I don't bother to care what's up there. I just wanted to know wind direction. I have flown many gift flags... rebel flags, beer flags, American moto cross flags, Jamaica, Swiss, Finland, Arabian horse, Morgan horse, Pagan Pride, Pirate, Bloody hand of Ulster, Scotland etc. and home made advertising flags to advertise our company because we needed a permit to place a sign on the ground for our company and I rebelled about the fee. As I said it's all about wind direction to me and they don't last around her so it became all about a piece of fabric that needs changed often. I get lots of donated Canadian flags because my eclectic choices have been noticed and I always fly them when I get them plus I have purchased many, not unpatriotic but my country has a hell of a lot of wind in my area. | |
