Look who I met!

Ok, so to most of you not such a big thrill, but I think it's pretty cool. We were out Geocaching and spotted this guy lurking in the reeds. Also saw a pair of Canada Geese trailing goslings already.

So I'm standing at the edge of this pond with my binoculars (yes, I AM that big of a geek) trained on the Green Heron and hubby starts tapping me on the shoulder.

"Honey..... errr....... hun...... hun...... hun........ "

"Shhhhh, you'll scare the bird"

"Errrr..... we'd better move" as he points to the water to my left. Barrelling through the water at a good clip is one very ticked Canada Goose. A few feet to my right was his nest, with his mate nestled on top. Oops.

It's not my picture, unfortunately. I'm hauling #1 son out with his good camera this afternoon. Hopefully he's still going to be lurking in the reeds.

What a beautiful bird...we only have blue herons here, I like to call then pterodactyls when they are in flight as that's what they remind me of. Waiting for more photos. Smile

pic. I just bought a new camera over the weekend, with the nice weather that is suppose to be happening this weekend, I can't wait to get out and use it.

It is exciting! I was on the phone with Bullet and got super excited when I heard a woodpecker!

Yes this one was at the Zoo, I don't recall anything for this bird as it was the last few exhibits that I had to rush through cause of my son zooming like he was on speed!

Argh, I give up.

The zoo has a website with all the birds they have listed and I still couldn't find it. What about emailing the zoo the picture and see if they'll tell you (and us!).

We missed getting a shot of the Green Heron yesterday, it got startled and flew off into the swamp. Here are a few a little more common ones that we managed to snap.

These guys were actually pretty far away. They caught sight of us and ran. Once we stopped laughing hysterically Son#1 got this picture. I'm guessing one of their natural predator defenses is looking so darned funny as they run away.

Hard to believe these were all taken smack dab in the middle of a new subdivision, eh? One of those new run off ponds they've been building, but this one seems to work well. Probably because they've left the adjacent marsh the heck alone and haven't over-managed it too badly.

Osprey Nest
You can't see it, but one of the pair is in there. Never got a shot when she was poking her head up, LOL.

The mate coming in with a fish. Another pretty distant shot. He landed in a tree and I was watching him with the binoculars. The fish was actually pretty big and still alive and flopping.

Then the camera batteries died, too darned cheap to buy back up batteries, LOL.

Thanks Hoodie, I'll tell Son#1 you said that. We're out at the Osprey nest site right now, trying to get better shots. The male (?) is flying around right now.
