What is a bot?

It says there is ME online plus a BOT....? I have no idea....anyone feel like educating me? :?:

BOTs generally aren't good but, maybe somebody chose that nickname as a joke?
BOTs are automated programs that search the web for info such as email addys, phone numbers, & personal web sites that are posted.
This info is harvested & given to another BOT programed to post spam, send spam, call you with spam offers etc.
I think it's short for robot program but I could be mistaken.

bots are nuisances in my opinion the forage the yahoo chats too!

is there a way to get rid of them... cause if there is... lets do it...

ask the computer whizes...this alarms me because someone told me they can steal your info from your computer...
