Just curious what others think about engagement/wedding rings.
If you split up, what do you do with the rings?
If the engagement ring was an heirloom (in his family for generations) do you return it to him?
Not particularity valuable money wise but sentimental to his family.

I wouldn't return them directly to him. I would give them to his mom or a family member you like. The wedding ring is yours to with as you wish. I would take mine and melt it down into something I would like. But this is all in the case where it ended badly. If things were amicable I would probably just keep it all as is for sentiment.

I actually gave them back to him in September.
The reason I gave them back myself was that I'm sure had I been "asked" for them back it would have felt worse.
I was just curious what other people do? (not that I hope anyone else was in the position of course)
I am 100% sure his grandmother would have wanted me to keep her engagement ring.
She was a wonderful woman who would have said "you earned that and more honey."

A family heirloom, I would give back to his mother (not him). In the case it is not a family heirloom then I would have the diamonds removed, gold melted and make a pendant out of the set.

His mom hated me worse than he did.
Returning them to her would have been worse.
Man my shit was fucked up.
I don't miss the guy or the rings. I miss his grandmother and his father.

And isn't it lovely to be able to say... my shit WAS fucked up.
And check this out...nobody is reading over my shoulder. Very Happy
Except this is what he should have been reading.
nice to just feel good.
(I feel like Mary Tyler Moore tossing her hat)
I'm so old.
