| While at the grocery store last weekend, I took a short cut through the organic section and came across pet supplements. There was this one supplement that I never heard of "Yucca Schidigera" by Holistic Blend that was 50% off, so picked up the bottle to read what it was for. "Holistic Blend®’s Yucca Schidigera is known to be effective for hip dysplasia, arthritis, bone/joint problems and inflammation. Known to reduce pain and increase mobility by production of the body’s own natural steroids. Known as a natural detoxifier for the liver " http://www.holisticblend.com/en/health-products/alternative-aids/yucca-schidigera/Seeing as how my dog has sciatica, and the metacam at times does not seem to be enough, I started to put some once a day in her dinner mixed with her kibble and and some yogurt. In the morning it's kibble and metacam. I have noticed a difference in just 5 days that she is starting to put pressure on her left hind leg (the one she limps on when she is having some back discomfort. I like it a lot better than the glucosamine and shark cartilage supplements I was giving her. Unfortunately from what I read in some Google searches, this supplement is not something I can give her long term. I may need to do 3 months on and 4 months off, or 3 months on and 5 months off. I'm even leary about keeping her on metacam long term but I really have no choice with that one if I want to keep her pain free. Has anyone had any experiences giving this to their dog? | |

| Be careful when mixing the two BBE, years ago I asked a pharmacist about drugs and supplements and they said there were no studies done on mixing them so they had no info to share. |

| Good point Jamn! I read that you can use it with Rimadyl, Deramaxx, Metacam, and glucosamine. But I should have confirmed with the vet before giving it to her just to be on the safe side. I have to stop by the vets office in another week to get more Metacam, I'm going to hold off on giving it to her for now and see what the vet says. | |
