Does anyone have their pets insured? I'm looking into it for Panzer but I can't get a quote yet and was wondering how much average pet insurance?

I have gotten quotes before and they are pretty expensive. My vet said a better way to do it is to put the money into a savings account (what the monthly premiums would be) and by the time you'll need it, it'll be there for you to use and hopefully extra. This way, if you don't end up needing it, you'll still have all that money to yourself. He said its only the best way to go if you can honestly put it in there and not touch it until you need it.

I got insurance on my rotti years ago it was well worth it as he ended up having so many problems. What I usually do is insure right from the start for the first year or so, then if no major problems come up I cancel. You can google pet insurance and get quotes from several, even PC has pet insurance now.

I have never had pet insurance, but I think if I had a bigger dog that was more prone to problems I would. The yorkie is so small they rarely get into anything or mess with other dogs so I feel relatively safe not having it with them

That's just it Yorkie, my friend has a Newfoundland dog who had a knee injury. She didn't have insurance and the surgery was out of Province and cost around 5000$. And knowing that Rotties are prone to certain injuries or disease I'm certainly looking into it.

Just a list of my rotti's problems

Surgery for a birth defect in his leg, he limped around 6 months of age
Entropian (eyelid surgery both eyes) done at the same time as his leg surgery 8 months.
He had grade 2 hip dysplasia not serious enough for surgery
Started having seizures at around 3 years
Ate 12 lbs of dog food (munchies from seizure meds)( the ONE time I didn't put the dog food bag into covered cans) had to have stomache pumped
Meds for control of seizures was covered under ins.
We spent easily 5000+ in his 6 years with us. Kept the insurance on him right up to his death which was also covered by insurance. Sad

Mousey, I'd get the insurance.............

WOW Jam,I am thinking rottis along with a few other breeds are prone to cost a lot of money in vet bills,I would be getting the insurance

It is fine to put the amount the insurance cost per month awaw, but some surgerys can cost more than one could save in a year.

You are so right there yorkie.
I thought my 700.00 emergency fund was a good little safety net.
I spent that in the first three days when Jinx got sick.

Yikes, thats a lot of surgeries. I would be getting the insurance.

I'm not opposed to getting insurance, just relaying what a professional suggested.... maybe that was just for my stinky.

My rotti was from a back yard breeder. I should have gone to a reputable one. Mousey I hope yours is.
