Does anyone have them as their internet service provider? Unfortunately, I don't get cable or DSL out my way. Right now I'm using Bell Turbo Hub and my contract is up in July and want to shop around for other options. The Turbo Hub is not something that would be a good option for taking online courses, unless I want to end up with a $200 per month internet bill. So looking at this as an option. I've heard not so good things about them but want to get the opinions of more people to be 100% sure.

How much do you use up in bandwidth each month?

Fleas, I've been downloading some software for some courses I want to take, the kids with their school assignments and projects, it ranges anywhere from 9GB to 15GB per month (the software that I download is about 2 to 5 GB). I've heard that satellite internet is not that reliable but I guess it all depends on the ISP and area where you live. At this point I'm willing to give it a try so that I don't have to keep putting off taking the online courses that I want to take from the college .

I was going to recommend Wind, but I don't think that would help at all. Distributel is awesome, not sure if you can get it though.

Thanks Fleas, I went to Wind site and it won't be enough bandwidth. Unfortunately Distributel is DSL, Cable and dial-up. If anything else comes up that you can think of, please let me know in the case I may be able to get it my way.

LOL ... I've been contemplating moving. But can't until at least 4 years from now. I like living outside of the city (Windsor area) but this is the part that sucks.

Direct Wave finally got back to me. Supposedly they are putting up a tower nearby where I live in a couple of weeks. They were the first company I contacted last week when looking for another ISP.

They offer:
60GB for $39.95 per month 2mbps, or
80GB for $49.95 per month 3mbps, or
100GB for $59.95 per month 5mbps.

Compared to Bell's Turbo hub 3GB for 39.95 per month (can't remember what the speed is).

If all goes well, it looks like I'll be canceling with Bell and going with Direct Wave instead of Xplornet.

lol ... The more I think of canceling with Bell, the more I get this warm and fuzzy feeling. When I move, I'm getting the magic jack plus. I want nothing to do with Bell anymore. It's not the package they offered me, but the whole way they run their business and customer service.

When we shut off our cell phones, we were hit with a $400 shut off fee (20 per month depending on whats left on the contract, max of 400). We thought that was it, then the bill came :o Turns out there is another fee (same deal as the 20 per month, just a bit less) for CHANGING our plan. Just over 1000 bux to kill a broken cell phone and one on the way out. We will pay the bill, then Bell and Rogers will never be used again and I hope they die a slow, painful death.

It's only a matter of time until everyone gets tired of their overpriced GARBAGE.

This is a small comparison of three companies based on an average of 100 gigs downloaded per month, up to 28mbs download speed, and home phone with these features:

Call Display
Call Forwarding
Caller ID Block
Call Waiting
Visual Call Waiting
Speed Dialling
Voice Mail
3 Way Calling

All of these prices will be from their sites, and not the "first 6 months" bullshit they feed you to suck you in.

Rogers:

Internet: $62 per month + modem rental of $5. 28 mbps dl speed, 1mbps ul speed, 120 gig allowance
Phone: $44 per month with 6 calling features.

Total of $111 before taxes. NOT unlimited, less phone features, and Rogers sucks. Not sure if these were under contract prices or not, but probably knowing thos scumbags.

Bell:

Internet: $64.95 per month + $100 for modem rental fee (let's call this 8 bux a month.) 28mbps dl speed, says up to 7mbps ul speed, but I'm sure you have to be in a certain area to get that, 100 gig allowance.
Phone: $40 per month with 5 calling features.

Total of $113 before taxes. NOT unlimited, less phone features, and Bell sucks too. Again, not sure if it's contracts or not.

Distributel:

Internet: $50 per month + 5 for modem rental (or you can buy it for 100 bux). 28 mbps dl speed, 1 mbps ul speed, UNLIMITED DOWNLOADING.
Phone: $21 a month with the 8 calling features listed above.

Total of $76 a month before taxes. NO CONTRACTS EVER

Now can someone tell me why ANYONE would use Bell or Rogers for this stuff if they don't absolutely have to?

Rogers was my cell phone carrier up until October of last year when I switched over to Telus. Had been using Rogers since 2000. I paid the early cancelation as my contract would have been up January of this year. Rogers tried to get me to stay, I told them if they wanted their loyal long time customers to stay, they should have offered a better deal a long time ago, not when a long time customer is calling to cancel their service. Sometimes (not always) if you only have a few months to go before the contract is up, it's better to pay the cancelation fee if it's going to cost you more money to stay with that cell phone carrier or ISP for that few months more. Kind of my situation with Bell's internet service right now. I want to be sure before I give my 90 days notice and cancel, that $100 for early cancelation is all I'll have to pay in addition to the internet time I've used.

Right now xplornet is not keeping track of bandwidth. April 1st apparently is when they are to start. I am with xplornet and I curse it daily. I pay 89.99 per month plus tax for a bandwidth of 60 GB per month. You probably already noticed one problem in the couple sentences I have typed. We are a gamer family, xbox 360 live is a must. With xplornet be prepared to get pissed off cause it constantly disconnects the xbox. Call up xplornet and they are useless as a pair of tits on a chicken!!! Its been a month since a tech was suppose to come out and "realign" our thingy outside as the constant "outage" is due to that (apparently). I became my own xplornet tech!!!! I'm 1/2 mile from the tower. Clear passage nothing in the way to obstruct my connection. And daily I go without net for periods of 5 minutes to an hour, every single day!!!

If you have a possibility to go with another company I would recommend staying as far away from xplornet as possible. Oh and I have their satelite 4g which is to be their best! which is a crock of shit!!!!!

Some things the tech have said over the phone to us.... Cloudy can interupt signal, Raining can interupt signal, windy can interupt signal, snow can interupt signal, if not aligned properly can interupt signal....I made the other half ask if breathing on it will interupt signal....some reason they did not find that amusing what so ever!

On Friday, Wave Direct is going to come out to do a site inspection so they can plan where they will install the equipment. I have no clue where the tower they just installed last week is, but I do see a couple of neighbours who live off of the highway with very small satellite dishes (which I'm guessing is Wave Direct). They are offering 80 GB at $59.99 per month. I've heard good and bad things about Xplornet, more bad than good, so they won't be an option. If this thing with Wave Direct does not work out, I'm still canceling my internet service with Bell Canada.
