PostSubject: What would your reaction have been?   Fri 23 Sep 2011, 9:07 pm

I came across this post in another forum and wanted to share and get member's opinions on this.

"My neighbor was soo upset at her daughter's boyfriend's parents for something I think is logical.

Apparently Boyfriend confronted his parents about being ready for sex with his girlfriend ( they are both 16 ). The parents got their son some condoms and..the mother went into the OBGYN to get some birth control pills. She gave those pills to her son to give to the girlfriend.

Honestly I think I would do the same thing. Its our right to protect our families too. I dont think the girlfriends parents have a right to be upset because if they had an open channel of communication with their kids...they would have been the one to prepare them for sex in the safest way possible.

So what do you ladies think? What would have been your reaction/response as parent of the BF? What would have been your reaction/response as parent of the GF? Do you think the mother of the BF did the right thing?
"

I would never have told my mom that I was having sex.
I would have been kewl if my mom had talked about it though.
I was the chick NOT discussing sex with any parent.

I am all for safe sex and I would give my teens condoms.
When she was 16 I still would have given her the condoms but I would have "knocked off" her BF.
She is 16!!

Sorry,I would have been upset too,it is not another parents right to give my daughter or son
anything.

Had the parents came to me and openly discussed it I might have been alright with that

My thoughts on this are that, I would be glad that my son would feel comfortable to discuss this topic with me. I could then give him my POV on waiting for the right one and not being in a rush.

Never would I ever consider giving a child that was not mine any type of medication. Even with my kids, I check with my family doctor first if it's something my kids have never taken before. If I were the mother of that 16 year old girl, I would be furious at the BF's mother. There's a reason(s) that these aren't accessible over the counter. The BF's mother most likely meant well, but it was very poor judgment on her part. She's lucky that her son's GF didn't have a allergic reaction or end up sick.

It's great that they have such a close relationship with their son. As the mother of a 17 year old girl, I would have kicked their asses (verbally) from here to the next county.

They spoke to their son, not his girlfriend. LOTS of boys are ready for sex at that age. So there is the chance that that young girl feels pressure from him, AND his parents.

Not only that but, as BBE mentioned, there are medical issues involved as well. There is a correlation between birth control and breast cancer, if there's a family history (also the meds given for menopause).

The part about someone getting birth control pills for someone else sounds kind of strange, I would have told the girl to speak to her mother about getting it on her own. That's what I did with my daughter talked to my doctor first then made an appointment for her to go see her.
