| uck do oil companies get away with this shit?
Last year at this time, oil was in the $85 a barrel area, gas was just over a dollar.
This year, oil is $83 a barrel, gas is STILL $1.25 a litre. How does this make any sense at all? | |

| fleas, were there any changes to your tax structure in Ontario in the last year. That could account for it. The government makes more money off gas then the oil companies do. Are your stations required to have a sticker on their pumps with a pie chart of who all gets how much of every $/litre ?? | |

| The HST would account for 8 of the 25 cent increase now that I think about it. Otherwise, I don't recall any changes in the last year. 32% of the cost in Ontario is tax according to what I can find online. edit: Not sure where I got 6 from in the first sentence, the HST added the 8% Ontario sales tax.

| Take from http://www.autos.ca/forum/index.php?topic=74123.0"You are missing two numbers. 1) the amount of the fractions "distilled" from the crude that go into gasoline this number alters by time of year 'cos of demand for heating oil ( ==diesel) vs demand for gasoline ( is this "crack spread"?) 2) the cost of the mandatory ethanol added and the detergents and so on that are added. As for taxes. In Ontario there is 24.7 cents added before the retailer markup and then 13% HST added at the end and that 24.7 is itself taxed of course by the HST." | |
