PostSubject: Dog boarding rates   Thu 07 Jul 2011, 9:52 am

How much do you think is a fair price to charge to watch someones dog per day?
A woman I know needs to board her dog from time to time but he has SA and freaks out in a kennel setting.
I could take him in and board him while she travels but I don't know a fair price to charge.

Any thoughts?
I'm just thinking about this right now but I don't know how much to charge her if I agree.
Gabe is a little beagle who is friendly and loves other dogs.
He would fit in fine with my crew now that Kane isn't here to "protest."

Sad

Find out what it costs for a kennel and decide what is fair to you!

Thanks Fleas.

Ellen brought her dog over tonight and he fit in with my pack great.
She is going to pay me 20.00 per day.
That was more than I was going to ask for.

Sweet little dog too and it might be just the distraction Sam needs.
He seemed happier tonight.

Just look for the garden.

$20 a day sounds fair. That's what the boarding place (not really a kennel, a doggy day care) not far from me charges to board dogs over night.

$20.00 is what I charge for the rare occasion I dog sit. It's a big responsability and a pain in the ass if you ask me. I remember someone posted this question once on "that other place" and when I suggested this fee there was a whole lot of "you don't charge people you know yada yada yada" comments. Of course you charge and charge well or you get used as a sucker if you don't and when people know you charge you get asked a lot less. Glad it's working out for you and cool you enjoy doing it. Smile

That is so true and what I try to drill into my mother's head. My neighbour, who is also a friend of my mom's, her daughter decided at 15 years old it would be cool to get pregnant and have a baby. Then decided when things didn't work out with the father, to jump to the next guy and have another baby. When she wants to run the streets and her mother doesn't want to babysit, her mother calls my mom and my mom will babysit for free. This went on for a couple of years, just recently my mom said "no" she wasn't going to babysit unless it was an emergency. It sounds horrible but people will use you if you a lot more if you do it for free.

It was my thread on that "other place" that you are remembering.
The neighbors across the street asked me if I could let there two dogs out at lunchtime as the wife got a new job.
I was only supposed to be helping them out until they hired someone.
They never once offered to hire me.
I was just doing them a favor since I loved dogs so much-lol (his words)

I do love dogs but if they expect me to be home everyday for a year to let their dogs out for an hour, in my opinion my neighborly favor is over and I should get paid.
I was kind of surprised that most people would do it it everyday for an hour for free for over a year.
If you all saw what I had to walk through just to get to the basement door.
I fell down those concrete steps more then I care to remember.

Last night with the dog went fine at my house though.
Gabe was a wonderful house guest.

Seven liked him.

Seven looks so happy to have a friend stay over. Gabe looks as though he's checking the place out. Glad it well, and don't feel guilty about charging them a fee to board their dog at your place.

I actually replied to this ad BBE.

http://halifax.kijiji.ca/c-pets-animal-pet-services-Desperately-seeking-dog-boarding-near-Mount-Uniacke-W0QQAdIdZ295485923

My neighbors and their two dogs are totally separate from Gabe the beagle.

I loved having Gabe here but I am not taking out the neighbors dogs anymore.
It wasn't all about money either.
The neighbors didn't make anything easy for me, maybe I would have kept doing it for free if they at least shoveled that awful concrete stairwell.
If they had at least tried to make it easy for me, I'd most likely still be doing it.

Ellen who owns Gabe is a really nice lady with a wonderful dog who just can't be left alone.
We got along fine-I'm not a big fan off leaving my house-lol.

Any idea of how often and for how long your dogsitting duties will be?

I'm not really sure yet but it seems she goes away a lot. (or would like to)

I told her this morning when she picked up Gabe that she can bring him over to play while she is at work. (no charge)
But when she actually goes away nights we go back to the original plan.

Yes, he is.

And at any time you would like to relive me of my "burdens" please do.
They aren't selling on the Darkside and I want them out-lol.

I need the space.

I dropped of stuff at Rick's thrift shop today, just to make room in my bedroom.....thank god they're closed on Sundays, I can't go in that place without taking something home.

I just feel bad tossing them.
I know they can be pretty but I just know I won't do it.
I have a bureau in my living room-lol

They should go visit you now.

DON'T YOU DARE TOSS THEM!!!

Give me a bit of time to gather up some extra $$ and I'll buy them from you.......you toss them and I'll come up there and smack you.

And I'll get my daughter to have her drivers and pickers on the lookout.......if they see them at the curb you're dead meat! (or maybe they'll just drag you out kicking and screaming and shove you in the crusher instead !)
