Thanks rott.

Mousey,

I'm not going to kill you, you are asking the same thing we are.
It doesn't make much sense to me either.

Thanks Jersey (((HUGS)))

I've done two more runs down the road, no one has spotted her and she's not visiting any of her friends. BIL just headed out to take a look. Her rope was pointing towards the woods so she's likely gone after some furbearing critter. If she heads down the road she's usually back in 1/2 hr, the woods....longer. I just worry as she always comes back lame (thinks she's younger than she is) and ends up sick for a couple of days.

o.k. don't kill me here I'm not really wise to animal needs...lol but why dog food? Can't we feed them cooked veggies, meat and fruit, grains?? Is there something in dog food they need? I have no idea what my husband feeds the dog except it costs about 60$ a bag!

Some people home cook / feed raw for their dogs all the time. MPO, I don't see anything wrong with it. But you just have to make sure that your dog is getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals, etc... Which is hard for a lot of people to do in their own diet, let alone a dog's diet. Kibble is there to ensure they get the right balance of everything they need in their diet, without the fuss of are they getting the right amount of this and that.

Rottnmom, did you find her?

From what I have been learning the last few days, there is too much of this and that in the kibble that we don't need to "recreate" in home prepared meals.

I'm not arguing that we need to educate ourselves on what we feed our dogs but in all honesty, kibble is looking worse and worse to me.

I think Rott is at work now.
She didn't call me.

That's what I feed my dog. My previous dog was fed Dog Chow and lived to age of 15 years.

Jersey, I just read this about the boiled chicken and I have to warn you that is not good for them to be eating just that for a few reasons

- cooking takes all nutrients out that they require
- if you do decide to feed raw they need specific meat, bone and organ ratios (all raw)

You need to stop beating yourself up over everything...sometimes bad things just happen that are beyond our control. I know you are worried sick that you have been negligent in some way and that is why the dogs got sick but honestly hun you are one of the best doggy mommies that I know. Personally I think you have too many animals to feed raw...we tried but let's just say there was aggression issues and if you can't keep all dogs separate during meal times chances are you may also have other issues and too boot it is damn expensive unless you can buy seconds at wholesale prices.

Rott, I hope you girl made it home okay.

Jersey, I don't think it was the brand of food you fed your dogs. Sometimes things happen in life that don't make sense and we just can't explain. It has nothing to do with what you fed. Your dogs had the best life, as they were very well loved and cared for, and spoiled. Sometimes I still replay in my mind what was it I didn't do right, when I had to put my senior cat to sleep last year and his litter mate 6 months later. Don't beat yourself up over it.
