PostSubject: Anyone here a 'makeup on a budget' nut??   Anyone here a 'makeup on a budget' nut?? Icon_minitimeTue 28 Dec 2010, 10:30 pm

First off.......I'm not selling for or representing this company.......just tried some of it tonight.

The oldest daughter at 27 decided after coming home to be part of a wedding this summer, that it was about time for her to look into buying (and learning how to use) makeup. Being an internet junkie she found this awesome site and started to pick up a few things. Well a few things turned into a LOT of things and she would message me when she was ordering to see if I wanted anything.

Well I'm a base level, wash and wear person. I've worn makeup at times but only minimal. I don't do fuss and muss, won't spend any amount of time on anything....clothing, hair or make up. And I'm CHEAP. I hate spending money on 'decorations'.

This isn't like Avon or any other company with sales people or commission, etc. Just wanted to pass this link along to anyone who wants to pick up some pretty decent makeup for a super decent price.

Daughter combined all my 'orders' into a gift bag and gave them to me for Christmas, so I decided tonight to try out one of the nail polishes. I HATE putting on nail polish.......my eyesight is for shit, my hands shake at times and I (again) don't have the patience to wait for it to dry before I'm messing in something and wreck the half dry nails.

By the time I finished one coat on the second hand, my first hand was dry. Full drying time was like maybe 8 minutes.....like I said......if it ain't fast and easy I don't want it. (explains my buzz cut)

E.L.F. (eyes, lips, face)

http://www.eyeslipsface.com/

Here's a couple shots of my nails.....one coat in burgundy(oops, cranberry) (looks red under the flash). It has more of a satin finish than gloss but if you wanted real shiny you could add a top coat or clear coat. I like it as is, not so flashy. And it costs $1 a bottle !!

I can't get over the prices and from what I'm seeing in my gift bag it's way better quality than the bargain brands at say Walmart.

Hope some of you can make use of the site, I know my daughter loves it (her request for Christmas was a huge makeup case that flips out with all kinds of trays)

Daughter reminded me that the nail polish wasn't $1.......she only buys when they put their 1/2 price sales on.....which is quite often and runs for a decent length of time. So the polish was .50 cents a bottle 👍

They always run specials....could be $$ off your order, 1/2 price sales or combinations of specials. And right now shipping is free for orders over $25. Believe me, it can take a bit of ordering to hit $25.

She wasn't impressed that the brush set she got me at full price is now $10 off though Giggle

Yorkie, I'm terrible about jewellery. Totally love it, pick up pieces I have to have......then most of the time don't wear it, duh. Waitressing we were only allowed to wear our wedding sets and small earrings. Now I'm basically doing warehouse work so bangles, dangles and things that could get caught really don't make sense. And I really don't go anywhere that I even think to get 'done up'. Still love the bling though.

Yorkie, a couple pieces I picked up at a thrift shop in Vancouver. Shots are crappy, not enough light.....they're sterling, older pieces and I fell in love clap

I don't wear any makeup either, except if I'm going to an event. I did buy some last summer that I'm going to have to get up early in the morning to make time to put on before I leave for work. Like that shade of nail polish.

Trinnity bought me some E.L.F makeup for Christmas this year and I love it. She bought me the pack with 8 eyeshadows. I wear them all the time. It's good quality too.

The nail polish looks really nice and for that price you can't to wrong. I have a bit of an addiction to makeup and nail polish though so I should probably stay away.

What I like about that site are the makeup tips to make the makeup last longer without having to keep re-applying it throughout the day.

Some of the tips I've come across:

Painful tweeze?
Rub a little anbesol on a brow before your next tweeze to numb the area.

I'm guessing if you wax instead of tweeze, you can also use anbesol.

***************************
To make eye shadow last longer. Lightly dip the tip of the brush in saline solution used for contact lenses, then dip into eye shadow and apply.

***************************
Disguise dark circles
Many women make the mistake of using a concealer that is lighter than their skin tone. Use an illuminating concealer in the same color as your foundation. By using the correct shade, you will hide shadows, and the light reflecting particles will help brighten up those eyes!

***************************
Thin eyelashes

Use an eyeliner to fill in any gaps between the lashes and lightly dush them with powder in between coats of mascara to add volume.

***************************
Thinning brows

Have your hair stylist dye them for you. For an at home treatment you can use eye shadow to fill them in!

When filling in your brows try using powder! Although brow pencils may last longer, powder creates a more natural look! Set color in with a clear brow gel.

***************************
Runny mascara

Dab your eyelashes with a primer or baby powder. Apply your mascara, waiting a few seconds between coats so it will have something to adhere to.

***************************
Need to remove stains from your teeth

Mix a little bit of baking soda and peroxide together and use as a paste instead of your normal tooth paste once a week.

***************************
Want to create your own lip colour

Create your own lip color by using a sheer lip-gloss and mixing it with a favorite eye shadow

***************************
Unwanted scars or blemishes

Try tea tree oil, it has been proven to help reduce the appearance of scars, and help clear up blemishes.

****************************
Did you know sweet almond oil is a very effective facial product? It is ideal for removing makeup, helping eyelashes grow, and as a moisturizer for extremely dry skin. It also soothes sunburned skin.

Ok, I'm going to stop here. If you have any makeup tips, please post.

I have a mascara tip.

I bought a set of mascara brushes from Shoppers Drug Mart. They are pretty cheap. If my mascara gets clumpy after I put it on, I comb my eyelashes immediately with one of the mascara brushes. After I am done I do a super quick rinse of the used mascara brush with soap and water so it is good to go for next time.

Undereye concealer tip.

I use Cover Girl concealer. To ensure it matches my skin and looks normal, I dab it lightly into my foundation before applying. Works great to ensure a colour match.

Now this I'll have to remember.........inherited those damn dark circles and passed them on to my daughter too.....not something she thanked me for. Great tip Amomma, we're both gonna try it out!

There is an awesome site by Paula Begoun. Her team does product reviews, and she also has her own product line. Her reviews can be accessed by anyone for FREE for Jan and Feb 2011 only. (You do NOT have to sign up or register for anything.)

I am on her email list. I have already started printing off the top picks. Look for the top picks lists in each category, and the price is also listed. Some are good products but too pricey. The site is American so some of the products we do not have in Canada.

I hope you love this as much as I do! I love her ratings. She has books too in your local library.

http://www.beautypedia.com/BestProducts.aspx

ps - I do love her facial care products, shampoo, conditoner. I don't love her make-up. Don't buy from her unless you get free shipping, becuase there is always a free shipping deal of some type going on. queen

I'd love a nail polish that stays on for more than a few days. The best so far, and believe me it isn't that great, has been Rimmel ...lasting finish pro. I'm a tad anal about nail polishes. Smile

Haha!! Probably have a look similar to mine did when my parcel arrived. :o

I'm becoming a nail polish freak. My nail are horrible because of all the produce I work with. The stain won't come out even with bleach and I hate to serve customers looking grubby...........also kind of gross when you're out anywhere, dressed up or not. So I've loaded up on the colors I like and trying (for the first time ever) to keep my nails looking presentable (they so clash with the t shirt, jeans and work shoes).....but at least they're pretty!!
