My son's 5th birthday is this Sunday, I invited 4 of his classmates, the party is from 1-4, I didn't state that we would serve lunch, but am now questioning myself about whether I should be providing a meal or just cake? I am a little nervous this is my first born and first birthday party with his friends instead of family. I want it to go smoothly and I want them to have a fun time. Should I set up some games? If so any ideas on what to play??

1-4 indicates to meit is a party not a luncheon,I would provide cake and ice cream for the children.

Never knew a child that didn't love pin the tail on the donkey.Old fashioned?Yes
but kids still like it

Perhaps a child version of scavenger hunt of things within the house.

I was thinking of that game to, wonder if they sell it at the dollar store? I'll have to check if not I'll check Walmart. My mom has informed me that her friend gave her a pinata and she bought halloween candy to put inside, I'm not sure where we'd even hang it for them to hit it, and it's got sesame street characters on it, I'm a little worried it's a little young for a 5yr old and the kids might tease him that it is sesame street.

I will be shopping sometime this week for "goodie bags" for the kids, I'm excited for my son to finally have a party with friends. Can't believe my little man is almost 5, time flies!

I know that our dollar store sells it,if not make a large pic of a donkey and make some tails out of yarn or something.

I don't think kids pay much attention to the actual pinata ,it is what is inside that counts for 5 year olds

For my daughter one year I had the kids decorate their own party hats and loot bags (plain paper bags, we had a piniata) pass the present (kind of like hot potatoe) the winner keeps the present (I got one for each kid so no one was left out, just something from the dollar store) you could serve munchies but like Yorkie said it's not a luncheon, maybe chips and juice.

Thanks guys, Mousey I used your idea and got the kids to decorate their own paper bag to collect the goodies from the piniata, the piniata we had was one that you pull the strings one string is the trap door to all the goodies inside, sadly it was over very fast, the second child pulled that exact string lol. I served chips and juice, they all seemed to have a great time playing, and after opening presents they just wanted to play with the new toys. My son had a good time today it was nice to see him so happy.

He had slept at my parents house last night because Hubby and I had a Christmas party so when he came home this morning and saw a room full of balloons the first words out of his mouth were "Thank you for making my birthday so special" he hadn't even seen or opened any presents yet. It was nice to hear, he's such a great kid, I love him to pieces!!

Great Smurry! we had the same kind of piniata, I had all the girls pull their string at the same time so no one really knows who had the winning string..lol
