This is very interesting.

I was looking at different things. I remember reading an article on bloat and ice cold water when we got Bosco.

Now I can't find any articles.. Maybe I am googling wrong as it is really late here.

I do know the proper way to cool a dog down. But this point of view was very interesting..

any thoughts?

Now my vet told me, that he had a horse once that had colic. He would fix that colic.. and would go into colic again and again. Now, not twisted gut colic.. He took the horse to his place for a bit. No colic. The only thing, that my vet could figure out was the horse was having issues..due to the temp of the water. The owner would only break the ice 3 times a day ( I think he said). Now, I have heaters.. and the water is cool or at the same temp.. I wonder ( haven't googled) whether cold water- could cause colic in a horse.. Any thoughts pooper?

I've heard that too about giving dogs ice cold water and bloat. I still give my dog ice to chew on. No one really knows what causes bloat, and some will say a dog can inherit it from one of its parents. IDK I do think though that feeding or giving excessive water to a dog prior to and immediately after the dog has just been through a high level activity (running / jogging, agility, schutzhund) could cause bloat in a dog. I never feed my dog prior to agility class and wait at least an hour after before feeding her, just to be on the safe side. If she's running around outside like a crazy fool playing with the kids, it's the same, no feeding prior to and no sooner than an hour later.

I pretty much do the same as BBE. I dont give ice water and keep the dogs quiet for at least an hour before and after feeding.
Oh, I also dont use elevated bowls.
